National Conventions

Before going to Indianapolis and Dallas for the National High School Journalism Conference, I had never been outside of the state without my parents. These conferences not only helped me bond with fellow GBHS journalism students, but they were a journalistic adventure, meeting lots of journalists from across the country and giving us a chance to look at new sights from a different perspective. Learning travel etiquette, cooperating with each other, and being honored at onsite contests were learning experiences that will stay with me forever.

2017 MIPA Summer Workshop

The MIPA Summer Workshop, “True Colors,” revealed a lot of my true colors. It revealed that I could create a lasting relationship with people I only met four days before on the Upstart staff. Collaborating with members of the Upstart team was a way to learn more about editing, designing, and writing with journalists from across the country. We still remain close friends, communicating on our group chat, sharing advice to one another on how to improve our publication just about daily. Five days at MIPA created a team of journalists that will never separate, and I will be forever grateful.
